Zambujeira ~ 5 to 8 September 2010
05.09.2010 - 08.10.2010
A few mates are meeting up for some sunshiny days. It's a mad hectic rush from Bilal's place to catch the train into Lisboa, the Metro to Jardim Zoologica and then hot-foot it to Sete Rios bus station to get the bus to Zambujeira. Despite being held up in an “onderonsie” that Tert had with his ticket on the Metro, we were able to send the gazelle Rosa to buy tickets – she made it with seconds to spare and we hauled our tired butts onto the bus for a 4 hour journey to paradise. Arrived as it was getting dark and were met in town by Andreas, Thelia & Jasper. We had a quick meal and then made our way (with less baggage, thanks to A & T taking it on the bike!!), to our campsite – on the hill top overlooking the sea. We quickly set up camp on the ground and got into zzzzzzzzz mode. The next morning I was greeted by the most beautiful site...stark cliffs and a pristine white beach, perfect waves, rejuvenating sunshine...what more could a gal ask? We spend the next few days getting as much Vitamin D as we can, playing like kids in the sea. I found my own private cave that appears when the tide is out. Many happy hours spent just lolling in the little pools, thinking about....pretty much nothing! I built some really good calf and gluteus maximus muscles, what with the 281 steps up and down to the beach, sometimes twice a day. One afternoon, as if by magic, the Wood Pixie from Boom! Appeared before my eyes!! I couldn't believe it. All this way to bump into him again. He and Rosa made camp on the 3rd beach, but we suspected that the tide might come in too close for comfort, so we built reinforcement walls around their temporary home. But you cannot challenge the wild Atlantic...she came in with avengance during the night and soaked them good and solid. We tried!!![]()
